A NEW APPROACH TO PARKING
Starting late 2023, the County of Maui launched “Park Maui,” its new parking management program that strives to implement data-driven solutions for parking at beach parks, in business districts, and on streets throughout our island’s most heavily utilized areas. The project’s goals are to:
- Improve access to beach parks for residents as a free recreational experience
- Improve turnover of cars on-street to increase access to businesses in town
- Create affordable long-term parking options for employees
- Prevent spillover of business parking into residential neighborhoods
- Improve safety in parking areas and neighborhood business districts
- Generate revenue to maintain parking operations, educate visitors, offer public transit alternatives, and protect sensitive cultural and environmental sites.

PARK MAUI RELAUNCH EFFORTS
Currently, the County is working hard toward the launch of the Parking Ambassador Program as part of the Park Maui program, and initiating a paid parking pilot at the South Maui County beaches in Kihei. The County is also working to introduce updated parking management policies in Wailuku Town, such as the implementation of time-limited parking at select locations, and improving wayfinding and signage in the area.

WAILUKU COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION PUBLIC MEETING
Updates on various projects in Wailuku were presented during WCA’s public meeting. Speakers included Erin Wade (County of Maui Department of Management) on the Park Maui program and Hālau of ʻŌiwi Art, Brian Ige (Dowling Co) on the Wailuku Garage, and Kelly McHugh-White (Small Town * Big Art) on the Wailuku Arts District.
